About TCF

The Children’s Foundation International (TCF) is a non-profit 501c3 corporation founded in 1995 which supports and funds unique programs for children and youth that give hope, provide educational opportunities, and develop leadership. TCF is funded through individuals, organizations and corporate contributors and is not affiliated with any government, religious or international agency.

Our Mission

The mission of TCF is to provide shelter, food, clothing, education, medical attention and other life-changing necessities to children in desperate or abusive situations. We strive to break the cycle of poverty, abuse and ignorance and help children to become positive, productive and self-fulfilled members of society with opportunity and hope for the future.

Our Founder

Nancy Nystrom, following the loss of her son, Fred, in 1994 founded The Children's Foundation, a 501c3 corporation. In 1995 Nancy founded the Mexican Civil Association Casa Hogar Los Angelitos for the purpose of rescuing and changing the lives of children in extreme circumstances.

Freddy's legacy lives on and his love flows to all the children at Casa Hogar, giving them faith, hope and security. Nancy continues her work as a child advocate in Mexico and the US from her home in Texas. Her late husband Dave Nystrom was also pivotal in building Casa Hogar and a memorial in his honor will be held on June 11, 2021 to raise funds for the CALA Event Center in Manzanillo.

Today

Nancy opens the "Comedor"  soup kitchen in the community of Salagua located in the Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico. Comedor provides one hot meal per day to 75-125 street and extremely poor children.

The Mexican Civil Association “CasaHogar Los Angelitos A.C.” was established as a full time care facility. opening with one child and expanding to 7 within days. Within 6 months it was caring for 27 children.

A second "Comedor" opened in Santiago and more than 175 children were fed every day.

This same year a second house was rented in order to provide additional space for children.

Closed the Comedors to concentrate on full time care for the children living at CHLA. Property was purchased and CHLA moved to the new location in Salagua called “The Hacienda”.

Offices and a medical clinic were built on the property and educational tutors were added to the staff. TCF in CO launched a Child Sponsorship Project to help cover the finances for caring for 34 children. Grants from Rotary, churches, businesses, organizations and individuals enabled the CHLA to expand educational programs, living facilities, transportation.

TCF’s Expressive Arts Program, "Ballet Folklórico Los Angelitos" was officially launched with folkloric dance and music. In 2009 the group toured in CO. Further expansion at both locations in Mexico enhanced education and art programs.  A new dental clinic was built on the property.  The 1st student from CHLA entered University. Nancy published  "Each Day A Portion". Plans for CALA (Centro de Artes Los Angelitos) were drawn up. Now over 100 children at CHLA.

After a difficult year of Covid-19 we are starting to rebound with volunteer support! We have over  150 children at CHLA and currently XX in college. Service trips for volunteers will resume this summer.
